Savannah: But First a Little Southern Comfort…

Discovering Savannah

We stopped in Savannah on our way down to Miami from Alexandria. I have always wanted to visit this beautiful city and was not disappointed when I had finally made it. Since we were only there for one day and our time was limited we first thought it would be a good idea to take a tour bus around the city. We decided against this when we saw the price of the tour. We took one of their brochures/maps which listed all historic points of interest and realized that the city was easily walkable.

Although it was a very humid and hot day we found refuge under Savannah’s infamous trees along Oglethorpe and Liberty St. There were many beautiful parks and squares where we would sit and just take in all of the surroundings. Colonial Park Cemetery is a must do if you’re into that sort of thing (I happen to love cemeteries) and even if you’re not it serves as a gorgeous background for photographs. Also, you will find many placards indicating historic people who are buried there and get a chance to learn more about them.

Food Drinks Served With Southern Hospitality

We found the vibe in Savannah to be very laid back and the service to be exceptional. Everyone we encountered was especially nice and accommodating. Talk about southern hospitality! For lunch we dined at The Distillery Ale House, a place with delicious food and a pretty good craft beer selection. It was a little out of the way from the center of town but this trek allowed us to discover other sites along the way. In the evening we decided to stop for drinks at Rocks on the Roof at the Bohemian Hotel. The beers and food were great as was our amazing server. However, the best thing about this place is the view! We decided to stay to watch the sunset and were able to get some really great pictures.
